This first site is a little tricky to navigate around in and the "tasks" are in Word documents - but boy, do they have some great math activities here! Balanced Assessments is from The Concord Consortium (part of Harvard's Graduate School of Education) and features engaging math tasks that really promote higher level thinking. The tasks are leveled - Primary (K-2), Elementary (3-5) and so on. All you primary folk, check out "Shirts in a Mirror" for a great assessment on symmetry. Good stuff here - worth a trip to the laptops or the "new" computer (where you'll find Microsoft Office!) to print them off!
Okay, so this isn't really math - but it is about numbers! Timeline is an interactive tool that lets you (or your students!) enter a series of dates and events into a form. Click through the pages to add as many events as you want. When you're finished, you can print out a timeline, horizontally or vertically, to show the sequence of events. Hey! Your kids could do one by month to map out some of the highlights of the school year!
Finally, ancient math. A Brief Introduction to the Abacus. Interesting read.

Ah, I will finally be able to actually use the abacus in my classroom. I've looked up how to use it before, but have never mastered it....NT
